MANY DELIGHT FOODS AT KOTA BHARU
MANY DELIGHT FOODS AT KOTA BHARU.WHICH ONE YOU LIKE?
First Day, Saturday
LAST Friday night my son, Arham arrived at Kota Bharu. He was alone, just to visit me and family here. There is a sister and two of his brothers staying at Kota Bharu now.
His sister is Noor Baiti Zaini and his brothers are Ahmad
Faris Zaini and Ahmad Syaibani Zaini. Noor Baiti and the younger brother, Ahmad
Syaibani are teachers meanwhile Ahmad Faris Zaini is an engineer.
Our usual program are to visit some relatives, my wife graveyard that passed away many years ago and buried at Kubur Salor, about 12 kilo meters from the town of Bharu, capital of Negeri Kelantan.
One usual program which we never avoided are looking for places to full our appetite, wether in Kota Bharu or other places outside Kota Bharu which are popular. The places may be in Rantau Panjang, Bachok, Pasir Mas, Pengkalan Kubur etc.
On the Saturday morning, by a car we are out looking for restaurant for our breakfast. We were five and six with my small grandchildren. Two of my grandchildren went to tuition class early in the morning.
We chosed to go to Kopitiam Kita for our breakfast. It is a popular café, situated at Jalan Sri Cemerlang, Taman Desa Jaya, Kota Bharu. It was not too far from our house at PT.
We were lucky because when we arrived there was one vacant car park front of the café, and one vacant table to our choice. Usually the one who drive has to drive around looking for vacant park and let others to enter the café and looking for vacant table for themself.
When everyone took their seats, we called the waiter to make an order. All of us ordered for Roti Titab, only me, who ordered two pieces of toast, with kaya without half cooked egg as usual. Roti Titab is the famous food here. Meanwhile Arham went and looked for traditional foods that were put in trays arranged to the wall of the building for the customers to choose whatever they like.
Usually there were many traditional Kelantan’s staples like, nasi kerabu, nasi dagang ,nasi tumpang, nasi berlauk, and traditional cakes , like cek mek molek, pulut berinti, and akok. But at that hours we only have very little choice, because nearly all the foods are sold out.
After finished taken our breakfast we paid the bill at the counter. The cashier at the counter did not know what we all taken, so she asked us what we have taken, including how many glass of teh tarik and how many pieces the roti titab.
The people who are not sincere at this this stage they are
very easy to cheat, by did not declare full what they have eat, and omit some
of them. So they eat much, but pay small.
At this time, nobody know what they did, but Allah Knows.
At this time, nobody know what they did, but Allah Knows.
So to every true Muslims did not cheat, because if they cheat
their foods which they taken are not permissible to them to eat. To the Muslim
the foods are haram.
We like to take lunch at home. My daughter, Noor Baiti Zaini cooked the foods for lunch. The main menu is indigenous Kelantan’s curry, Gulai Darat. Her gulai darat is very delicious. It was liked by our family. The main ingredient to this gravy is meat.
Second Day, Sunday
Today we are wanted to take our breakfast at Kedai Kopi White House at Jalan Sutanah Zainab, at the centre of the town. It is situated in front of the Masjid Muhammadi Kota Bharu, and near the Istana Balai Besar. It is a royal building where many historical important evens had taken places there. There are ample parking spaces in front of the Istana Balai Besar, and near Padang Bank or Padang Merdeka.
The restaurant is popular among the Malay and tourist. It is an old restaurant. When I was young in the years 1960an I sometimes with some friends took our breakfast at the restaurant. After the Subuh Prayer the restaurant flooded with customers for breakfast.
The most popular food are toasts with kaya, and two half boiled eggs, and one glass of tea, coffee, milo or other drink, choose by the customers..
When we arrived we saw the huge parking are full, and no more place for us. There are crowded people waiting outside the restaurant waiting for their term. We did not take too long to make decision to go to other place for breakfast. Hoover Restaurant is our choice.
The restaurant is not far from there. It is at Jalan Dato’ Pati, and in the center Kota Bharu old town. It was and old restaurant, and famous for toast, spread with kaya and one or two boiled eggs and coffee for breakfast.
For lunch there is Nasi Sumatera which had run the business for along times. It original place was at the junction off Jalan Tengku Petra Semerak and Jalan Sultanah Zainab. They moved to the new places mostly because to give way to the new building that will to be built there as you can see now.
On the footstep in front of the restaurant you will find a woman seller sold rice. She sold nasi dagang and nasi berlauk on the moving stall. The dishes are chicken curry, fish curry and boiled eggs. The customer ordinary put all the dishes in one plate for nasi berlauk or nasi dagang.
Arham ordered two plates of nasi dagang, with boiled eggs, and chicken curry for him and Ahmad Syafiq... I ordered two pieces of toasts, spread with kaya that they cut into four small pieces which they called two couples of bread
Before that, we have stopped at Siti Khadijah Market and Arham bought some traditional cake for his family at Saujana, Sungai Buloh, Selangor. He bought some Jala Mas and Buah Tanjung, some of the popular cake in Kelantan.
The market named after Prophet Muhammad’s wife, Khadijah who was a well-known successful business woman. Many goods are sold at the market ranging from dried and wet goods. You can see mostly the stalls predominantly run by women.
You may not find any market in Malaysia where women predominantly ran the trade like in Siti Khadijah’s Market at Kota Bharu.
Arham will go home tonight by the 9.00 pm flight from Pengkalan Chepa Airport to Subang.
Few Days Afterwards
Some of our friends from Petaling Jaya came to Kota Bharu for very important missions. They take their times to come and visit us at our house at PT. They are S Zul and his wife S Rohana and another friend Naemah come alone without her husband.
For the breakfast we serve they with few packets of rice that we bought from café did not too far from our house. The dishes are chicken and fish curry for their choice. They like them. The nasi bungkus are from Air Dingin, Tumpat.
S Rohana said that Kota Bharu has many variety of food and can be bought at any times off the day. She said ,”If we stay at Bharu we did not need to waste our times for cooking, because we can buy foods at any times we like, during the day or night”. And then she laughed. We only smiled to hear her joke.
They will go back by cars for tomorrow morning after finish doing their works.
Allah said,
“And He gave you of all that you asked for, and if you count
the Blessings of Allah, never will you be able to count them”.- [14] Ibrahim:
